Redstone Signals

Most coaster blocks don't run on redstone wire. They run on a signal key.

A signal key is just a name you type, like station_a or doors. Every block with the same name reacts together, wirelessly, however far apart they are.

You set a key by interacting with a block using the Coaster Wrench.

Your first wired ride

01

Give a block a key

Wrench the Station Rail and type a name — anything you like, one name per thing you want to control.

02

Control the signal

Crouch + use a Signal Remote and set it to the same name. A Control Panel button works just as well.

03

Press it

Use the remote. The station reacts instantly, from wherever you are standing.

Where keys come from

Signal Remote

The Signal Remote holds one key. Crouch + use to set the key, then use it to pulse that key on for 10 ticks.

It fires anything in the park without walking back to a Control Panel, which makes it the quickest way to test something you have just wired.

Control Panel

The Control Panel is the main way to make keys by hand. One panel can hold as many keys as your ride needs, each as one of two kinds:

Button

A quick pulse. Turns the key on for 10 ticks, then off again.

Lever

Stays on until you turn it off. Shared with every other lever using the same key.

Track Sensor

The Track Sensor makes a key fire on its own. It sits on a rail and holds its key on while a car is passing over it, for at least 4 ticks so quick passes still count.

This is the normal way to set off an effect as a car goes by, with no Control Panel involved at all.

Plain redstone

Ordinary redstone can drive a key too, through a Signal Converter in Emitter mode.

Signal Converter: the bridge

The Signal Converter translates between signal keys and real redstone, in whichever direction you need.

Receiver mode

Key in, redstone out. When its key is on, the block powers redstone at strength 15.

Emitter mode

Redstone in, key out. It reads the redstone reaching it and broadcasts that under a key you choose.
